Unless your child is a problem child (in which case your hands are full already), kids and Shibas get along very well.

The only word of caution regards very small children (less than 24 months) and puppies, where both parties are doing their most important learning and therefore some unfortunate incident may occur. This applies to most dogs anyways. But in those instances, you shouldn't keep your eyes off of either party (just as you don't keep your eyes off of junior, so he doesn't get hurt).

children: Fun with childrenSomewhere between the ages of three and four (generally earlier for girls), the child may even have better command of Shiba than the owner might care to believe. In any instance their communications lines are strong.

Introducing a Shiba to children can however lead to jealousy. It has happened to me. Shiba though s/he was the center of the world and sensed the special bond with my children. Shiba did not like it, but I put an immediate and unconditional stop to that. After three days, all was forgotten.
